Créées en 1983, les premières consoles MSX marquent une étape importante dans les loisirs vidéo ludiques. Ce sont en effet les premières consoles vendues de manière standardisée, et ce partout dans le monde. Les MSX ont très bien marché dans leur pays d'origine: le Japon. Le succès fut satisfaisant en Europe, mais presque inexistant aux Etats-Unis. Les jeux MSX sont sur cartouche.
