Les mushi sont des organismes vivant dans le corps des humains, parfois pour les guider mais très souvent pour leur nuire. Seuls quelques humains ont la faculté de les voir. Ginko est parmi ceux-là. La mission qu'il s'est assignée : traquer les mushi afin de libérer leurs hôtes involontaires. Ginko devient alors un "mushishi", un expert en mushi, un chasseur, un guérisseur ! Il va donc errer de villages en villages, à la recherche des personnes à aider.
