Taichi Hiraga-Keaton est un inspecteur en assurance très réputé. Diplômé d'Oxford, cet archéologue et ancien membre du SAS accumule les connaissances. Mais c'est avant tout un homme doué d'un sens logique et d'un esprit de déduction hors du commun. Il a choisi de mettre ses qualités au service de la Lloyd's, la célèbre compagnie d'assurances londonienne.
